Here at JTCU we strongly believe that saving shouldn't just be for adults. Helping children become confident with their money by encouraging saving at a young age is a great early life lesson and was one of the core beliefs that we started with back in 1996.
Our junior savings accounts are available to any children under the age of 16 who live within Blackburn with Darwen. When they become a junior saver, children receive their own savings passbook to help them see their savings grow. Children can pay into their savings accounts by cash and parents can also pay into their children's account either by cash, by bank transfer or by standing order.
As part of our mission to help get young people involved with saving we run a schools saving scheme across Blackburn with Darwen.
This makes joining JTCU and becoming ajunior saver even easier. Pupils at any participating school can collect a membership form from their school office. Pupils can bring their savings passbook in on their school's collection day and our staff will collect the savings and update the passbook for them.
Each year our staff also present one school with the Lillian Scott Memorial Trophy in memory of one of our founders who believed that getting young people involved with their own financial confidence was one of the best starts in life.
