How to become a member with JTCU

Who can join up as a member?

For adults, anyone aged 16 or over who lives or works within Blackburn with Darwen is eligible to apply for adult membership at JTCU.

For children, anyone under 16 who lives within Blackburn with Darwen is eligible to apply to be a junior saver at JTCU.

What ID can I bring?

We request that anyone applying for membership bring along a valid form of photo ID as well as a couple of letters addressed to you at your home address. These could be a recent bank statement, utility bill, HMRC/DWP letter or anything else from an official source.

For junior accounts a birth certificate, Child Tax Credits letter or doctors letter naming the child is acceptable as ID. We will also require ID for a parent if they are not already a member with us.

Where I can I join?

Anyone wanting to apply for membership with JTCU can visit either our main office in Darwen or any of our Outreach sessions in Blackburn. You don't need to make an appointment, just drop in whenever is most convinent for you.

Can I apply online?

We don't have an online membership application process at the moment. You can download the membership application form to complete, but we do ask that you drop this off in person for ID purposes.

Are there any membership fees?

When you become a member with JTCU we do charge a one-time admin fee of £2 to open the account. After this, there are no extra charges or fees for being a member.

When can I start saving?

You can start saving straight away! There's no delay in your account being set up. Once you've visited us with your ID and been issued a membership number you can begin to put money in your savings account straight away, either by cash or bank transfer.

Can I set up a direct debit for saving?

As a credit union we don't have a direct debit system for savings. We do allow members to save via standing order. This gives you the member full control of how much you save and how often and allows you to make adjustments if needed.
